Lesson 1: Lines, Ellipses and Boxes

Though the exercises are not exciting, I enjoyed doing it. Now, the 50% rule. Pointer pls.
Hey there DarkKing!Welcome to DrawABox, I'm Reboot, and I'll be critiquing today. I'll be dividing your critique into 3 part, lines, ellipses and boxes.
LINES-
SUPERINTENDED LINES- You have done a really good job here, I'm honestly surprised! Your shorter and medium lines have been done really well!
GHOSTED LINES- You did pretty well, your marks are quite confident but I do see that you have a lot of arcing lines which I have also noticed in superintendent lines. Make sure you use your shoulders, another problem as stated in the site is that some people have a natural tendency for their arm to move in an arcing motion. If this is the case with you slightly make you hand arc in the opposite way that it naturally arcs. I had the natural tendency problem, what personally helped was to actually look at how my arm moved, if it was in an arc id push it up on the next ghost and so on.
Ghosted planes- Once again you have done rlly well, your lines arc a bit less here. One problem I saw, and I have been seeing in multiple exercises is that you are redoing the line when you make a mistake, which is ntoa good habit to develop. You must learn to live with your mistakes, lemme give an example on what you SHOULD do- https://imgur.com/a/HSeNRn7
ELLIPSES-
Table of ellipses- You have done a good job here aswell, alothough i have noticed that in someplace the ellipses over each other or dont touch all 4 sides, its still pretty good
ellipses on planes- Here aswell they are pretty good, the ellipses here seem to be done before table of ellipse since they are not as confident, I've noticed that the ellipses go out of the plane a few times as well.
funnels- you ellipses here are good, but they dont seem to be alligning with the minor axis, the probem seems to be where the minor axis itself is placed, the minor axis should be placed properly in between the two c curves, there should be equal distance.
BOXES-
ROUGH PERSPECTIVE- your liens here seem to be quite wobbly, and you havent been plotting the line to the vp properly either. In the first page you seem to be randomly plotting our lines from the vp directly, or atleast it seems so, remember you plot the way the liens you drew go, not how they shoul've gone. You seem to get that idea on the next page, but soemtimes i notice that there are boxes that arent draw through, to not all planes are done. Remember that you have to spend as much time as you need, don't do things haphazourdly and properly read instructions.
Rotated boxes- Your rotated box exercise seems very well done, the original one. As mentioned above you have to live with your mistakes, don't redo any exercise unless asked for in your critique. Your first rotated box exercise was well enough and showed you have an understanding of the topic, meanign you wne tthrough the trouble of doing it again unnessesarily. Also pls dont put slef critiques on the page as mentioned in the site.
Organic perspective- Your aztuall boxes here seem pretty good. I have noticed on a few boxes that you haven't plotted the llines and ghosted, ut rather freehanded. Remember that all lines in this course must be ghosted.
Over all, you have done a great job with your ellipses and boxes. Your lines show a bit of arcing but its okay, reread the ghosting page (https://drawabox.com/lesson/1/ghostedlines) in the site. I have noticed that you redo lines when you make a mistake, so i'd like to remind you to live with your mistakes, it's completely okay to make them aswell.
I hope for you to succeed in your art journey :)
Next Steps:
2 pages of Ghosted planes
1 page of funnels
This is another one of those things that aren't sold through Amazon, so I don't get a commission on it - but it's just too good to leave out. PureRef is a fantastic piece of software that is both Windows and Mac compatible. It's used for collecting reference and compiling them into a moodboard. You can move them around freely, have them automatically arranged, zoom in/out and even scale/flip/rotate images as you please. If needed, you can also add little text notes.
When starting on a project, I'll often open it up and start dragging reference images off the internet onto the board. When I'm done, I'll save out a '.pur' file, which embeds all the images. They can get pretty big, but are way more convenient than hauling around folders full of separate images.
Did I mention you can get it for free? The developer allows you to pay whatever amount you want for it. They recommend $5, but they'll allow you to take it for nothing. Really though, with software this versatile and polished, you really should throw them a few bucks if you pick it up. It's more than worth it.
